Important Steps When Dealing With A Mouse

Home & Garden Blog

Finding a mouse in your home is never something you want to experience. It can happen, though, and in order to deal with this situation, you can take these steps.

Locate & Remove Feces

Your first priority should be to locate and remove the feces. This is important because rodent droppings could be carrying all sorts of germs and diseases, which could cause you and your family to get sick.

For a mouse, the droppings will be small and will be shaped like a cylinder. The darker the droppings, the fresher they are. This indicates that the rodent was recently near the area. Wearing protective gloves, remove the fecal matter and place it into a bag. Throw the bag in the dumpster.

Then get some disinfectant and spray the entire area where the fecal matter was. This step is important because it prevents the germs from spreading.

Set Out Live Steel Traps

If you are going to try to get rid of the mouse yourself and don't want to harm it, the best method is to set out live steel traps. These traps are made from a thick steel, which the mouse won't be able to chew through.

Another important feature of these traps is that they have beveled edges, so that the mouse will not injure itself inside the trap. You can then relocate it to a safe location outside. In order for the trap to be effective, though, you need to put the right type of bait in it. Cheese or bacon bits tend to work best when it comes to luring mice out of their hiding spots.

Hire Pest Control

If you don't feel comfortable with getting rid of the mouse on your own, there is always the option of hiring a pest control  service. When you get help from these professionals, they will first inspect your home for entry-points that the mouse may have used to get inside. These might include utility lines, small cracks in the attic or foundation and even underneath doors.

After sealing up these entry points, the pest control team has the option of setting out special radio transmitting devices. These devices give out a frequency that actually repels the mouse away from the area. This is a great alternative to poisons, which may require you to leave your home because of their toxic nature.

If you find a mouse in your home, these steps are important to take. They will help you deal with your pest problem in a safe, apt manner.

Furniture to Grow Old With

Even as a child, I was an indoor person. Despite the fact that I lived on a ranch and had a hundred acres of land to roam on, I preferred reading a book while sitting in the most comfortable recliner in my home. I’m referring to that soft, plush, and luxurious piece of furniture that you absolutely have to force yourself to get out of. When I became a homeowner, my primary quest was to find a suitable replacement for my childhood retreat. I researched, examined, and sat in numerous chairs before I finally found the one, the beautiful tan piece of furniture that I wanted to grow old with. On this blog, I want to share with others the importance of buying the perfect furniture items for your home, the ones you never will want to part with.
